Middle Tennessee comes into the contest on Saturday morning leading the East Division of the Conference-USA league with a 2-0 record. They share the top spot with FIU who has an identical record. The Blue Raiders have wins against Western Kentucky and Old Dominion.
Southern Miss is a member of the West Division of C-USA and have a record of 0-1. Their loss came last week 41-23 against Rice. They share last place with North Texas and UTSA.
Middle is 2-0 against Southern Miss. The Blue Raiders traveled to Hattiesburg, MS last fall and defeated the Golden Eagles 42-21. Middle returned two first -half interceptions for touchdowns.
MTSU is in their 16th season of FBS (1-A) football. They first joined in 1999.
Three players Isaiah Anderson, Kevin Byard and Darius Johnson all have 30 consecutive starts. Anderson and Johnson play offense while Byard is a strong safety on defense.
Cody Clark has hit 15 of his last 16 field goal attempts.
Running back Shane Tucker has scored at least one touchdown in 7 of his last 8 games. His streak continued when he ran 44 yards to score in the 2nd quarter. That run was his longest scoring TD of the season so far.
Jordan Parker ( #6 ) is coming off a career-high 158 yard game with his performance last Friday night against Old Dominion.
Southern Miss are in their 19th season of C-USA play. Their all time record is 84-50 and they have the most football championships in the history of the league with 5.
The Golden Eagles are playing two teams on the road who are new members of C-USA. Middle being the first and the second away game is against UTSA.
The 76 yard punt return by Kevin Byard against ODU is the longest in Middle’s FBS era history and the ninth longest in school history.
This season the Blue Raiders are averaging 38.6 points per game while allowing their opponents 30.6 points prior to today’s matchup.
