Tn Titans new coach has made his first move in building his new coaching staff. Former Titan Bruce Matthews has agreed to terms of a two year deal as the new offensive line coach taking the place of Mike Munchak.
Matthews now 49, who holds the record for seasons played at 19 and played in 14 consecutive Pro Bowls. He now will take on his role as offensive line coach, but this isn’t his first stint on a NFL coaching staff.
Matthews has spent the past two seasons as an offensive assistant to coach Gary Jubiak for the Houston Texans.
“I was very happy with the Texans, and I know they’re headed in the right direction, but I looked at this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Matthews told the Houston Chronicle. “Because of my respect for (coach) Gary (Kubiak) and Mr. (Bob) McNair and the opportunity they gave me, I really did struggle with this decision.”
Now with the Titans, Matthews will have the chance to coach his son, center Kevin Matthews.
The Titans still have many more positions to fill to finish out their coaching staff. They still need to fill offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, wide receivers and running back coach.
