This week, NASCAR runs the third and final race of the first elimination round of the Chase. After this week, four drivers will be eliminated from the Chase. Currently, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, and Aric Almirola are the bottom four going into the race at Dover. This is the final chance for those drivers to improve their position and advance to the next round. A win would change it all.
Dover International Speedway, also known as the “Monster Mile,” is a one mile, oval shaped track with twenty-four degree banking in the turns. This track can be challenging for many drivers due to the high speed involved in getting around the track. Drivers will maneuver 400 laps to complete 400 miles in the AAA 400. Read on to see which drivers should be watched closely.
The Fast Five for Dover is based on drivers’ past performances at Dover and other one-mile tracks. The Fast Five for Dover includes: Jimmie Johnson, who holds the most wins at Dover with nine and who won the previous race there in May; Clint Bowyer, who has had a rough time this season, but typically runs well at Dover; Matt Kenseth, who raced his way into the Chase, but is still searching for a win and could capture one at Dover; Martin Truex Jr., who is an unusual pick, but is a strong performer at Dover; and Denny Hamlin, who has had some strong runs this season and posted a top five finish at the May race earlier this year.
The green flag drops around 2:17 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Don’t forget to comment with your picks!
