Kart Racing comes to Middle TN at the TN State Fairgrounds
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.,—Amped Up Racing Series (AURS) in partnership with South East Karting Alliance (SEKA) is proud to announce the return of Kart racing to the storied Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn. The Kart Season Opener on the speedway’s quarter-mile paved track and a constructed road course will be the annual Music City Grand Prix held Sept. 14, 2013 during the Tennessee State Fair. The Karts also will race on Oct. 19,2013 and Nov. 9, 2013 and six times in 2014.
“Today is an awesome day for us here at the Amped Up Racing Series, said Series president Mike Curran of Murfreesboro, Tenn., of having the opportunity to rent the speedway. “Some of my fondest memories of racing have been here at this historic track. I’m proud to once again give a place for the future stars of tomorrow a place to get started into racing and what could be better than the historic Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville.”
NASCAR Sprint Cup former racers, including the late Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Darrel Waltrip of Franklin, Tenn., and Casey Atwood have raced on the speedway’s 0.596-paved oval. Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Racer Sterling Marlin of Columbia, Tenn., a two-time track champion at the speedway, still races on the speedway which is the second oldest continually operating track in the United States.
“Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway is the greatest short track in the nation, rich in history and still molding future champions,” said SEKA president Matt Skaggs. “I started racing Karts there in 1987 and watched many NASCAR races there as a teenager. After racing cars on weekly Saturday nights and then returning to Karts as the President of SEKA, It is a great thing that we can team up and return kart racing to this historic track.”
Curran said that Kart racing is a great family event and it is a well-known fact that kids racing Karts can lead to premiere racing series, including NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Current NASCAR Sprint Cup racers Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin and Jamie McMurray are among former Kart racers.
