With the news heading into the game that Vanderbilt would be losing the head coach Caldwell after the game against Wake Forest. The team looked as if they were playing a lot of heart as they marched down the field on the first drive of the game to only end up with a field goal. From there it seemed as the game began to unravel for the commodores, with turn overs and missed field goals they found themselves down by three touchdowns headed into their final drive of the first half. Vanderbilt was able to move the ball down the field with penalties and a few good plays to score a 31-yard field goal with 9 seconds remaining in the half. At halftime we had a score of Wake Forest 24 Vanderbilt 6, with Wake Forest getting the ball first after the half.
We start the second half with Wake Forest getting the ball first on the 35-yard line. The Vandy defense comes out looking strong holding Wake Forest to 3 and out forcing them to punt on their first possession. Vanderbilt’s defense seemed to show up in the second half but the offense seemed to continue to struggle. After another blocked punt the Demon Deacons got the ball inside Vandy territory, again the commodore defense kept the Demon Deacons out of the end zone and forced them to a field goal. Just when it looked like the Vanderbilt defense could stop Wake Forest they allowed them to march down field with ease to start the 4th quarter with a 9-yard touchdown run by Wake Forest’s Givens, to move the Demon Deacons up 34-6. The Vandy offense for the first time in the game would score on the ensuing drive after Jared Funk would run for a 24-yard gain then throw a 17 Yard touchdown to Jordan Matthews. This would be the last scoring of the game, with a final score of 34-13. Wake Forest would end its 9 game losing streak to end the season with a 3-9 record and The Commodores would keep its losing streak going with their seventh straight lose to end their season with a 2-10 record. This is The Commodores second straight season with 10 losses.
